Transporting User Groups across the landscape

I am presently confronted with a landscape with 2 CUA's, a very elaborate change management process and different user groups in almost every client!
Therefore I was looking for a way to synchronize the user groups throughout the landscape and remain in sync when needing user group changes.
This thread on SDN contains and explains 2 ways of work in order to achieve this:

1. Manual transport of tables USGRP and USGRPT via SE01 --> this is useful to get all User Groups in sync initially
2. Implement the setting CUA_USERGROUPS_CHECK in table PRGN_CUST --> this enables you to distribute User Groups via the CUA (idoc-controlled) and is perfect for ongoing maintenance
